"Murals of Sardinia", the series that enriches the Identity Library commissioned by L'Unione Sarda, is an ideal itinerary for discovering the best of muralism among the streets, squares, gardens of small Sardinian villages and cities of our region. A path capable of best illustrating techniques, themes, testimonies of what cannot be reductively defined as "street art". Between past and present, in the memory of ancient crafts and flavors, in the desire for change and modernization, the images of Gianni Sirigu - curator of the work - open a door to an artistic world of the highest level, capable of expressing dreams, the desires, the conquests of the people of Sardinia.

Artwork

In the center at the gates of Cagliari, Sarroch, stands out a devout representation of the glorious Sant'Efisio. The attachment to traditional values inspired the murals of Sarule, in particular weaving and a heartfelt religiosity are exalted. There is so much to discover in the Turritan capital: the turtle in Piazza Sant'Antonio, which crushes the chimneys as it comes out of the sea, is an excellent starting point. The poignant nature strikes the visitors of Scano di Montiferro. Naturally in Sedilo it is above all the spectacular Ardia di San Costantino. Sedini tricks the eye with an impressive trompe-l'oeil. An idyllic life in the fields is the narration of the walls proposed by Segariu. Splendid murals, solidly inspired by their own traditions, including religious ones, stand out in Selargius. In Selegas a primitive Madonna stands out, a Mother Goddess, Maria Lai, the work in the fields. Sennariolo's works follow the classical tradition. Senorbì's murals exalt the history and virtues of the Senorbies. Only recently in Serdiana has the art of muralism conquered the country, with unprecedented results. Workers and craftsmen are protagonists in Serramanna, but there is also a contemporary trend. Serrenti, like Serri, from agricultural villages, are inspired by the tradition of the fields. Sestu could not forget Emanuela Loi and the massacre in via Amelio: touching. The murals of Settimo San Pietro are playful and colourful. Siamanna's murals are a blast from the past, even in the choice of colors it seems to be witnessing a neo-realist scene. In Silanus forte is the reference to the bards and poets who, still today, compete in very fierce literary competitions. Maria Carta is on the murals of Siligo. Silius and the mine, Silius and the bread-making, Silius and the fields, here is the daily life.
