Driven by tourism, GDP and employment in Sardinia are growing more than the national average .

Today the Bank of Italy presented the report on the economy of the Island in 2024: the regional GDP increased by 0.9% , in line with that of the South and slightly higher than the national one; employment grew by 2.6% , more intensely than the previous year and more markedly than the Italian average, exceeding pre-pandemic levels.

The driving force of the Sardinian economy is tourism, which marks a +10% compared to 2023, making the service sector grow. Construction is holding up , with the drop in private purchases offset by good responses from public ones. Industry and agriculture are concerned, especially about duties . So-so, however, the dynamics of trade, which has been affected by the weakness of consumption.

The participation of Sardinians in the labor market continued to increase (by 0.6 percentage points, to 63.1%), driven by the female component; the unemployment rate decreased to 8.3% .

"The economy of Sardinia - explains the director of the Cagliari office of the Bank of Italy, Stefano Barra - grew by 0.9% in 2024, a higher percentage than that of Italy. Services contributed greatly, especially tourism".

Public investments, up by almost a fifth compared to 2023, continued to benefit from the progressive implementation of the PNRR: in April 2025, 4.7 billion euros had been allocated to Sardinia, equal to 3,034 euros per capita, a value higher than the national average (2,414 euros) .
