Luca Van Assche is the champion of the third edition of the Olbia Challenger. The Frenchman defeated Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta 7-6(5), 6-7(1), 6-2 after the longest match of the competition: three and a quarter hours.
The two finalists fully confirmed the pre-match expectations, enchanting the crowd at the Clotho Arena with a top-level tennis from start to finish.
A full 931 days later, Luca Van Assche finds himself holding a trophy, having won the fourth Challenger of his career: "I have to congratulate Pablo because he's an extraordinary player and he proved it once again. We both played a wonderful tournament, and I'm also happy to have played in front of a large crowd from the first round to the final."
With this victory, the Frenchman re-enters the world's Top 200, ranked 165th: "I was a very different player since my last victory and especially since my career-high ATP ranking of 63. A lot has changed, there have been ups and downs, but I've never stopped working, aiming to get back up as quickly as possible. Now I'll go straight to Brest, then I hope to enter the ATP 250 in Metz, and I think I'll finish the season with the Challenger in Bergamo."
Carreno Busta also closes with a smile, returning to the world Top 100 with the Olbia week, at number 97.
