Gennaro Gattuso is the new coach of the Italian national football team.

The FIGC and the former 2006 World Cup winning footballer have reached an agreement and, after the rumours that have been circulating in recent days, the official announcement has arrived.

Gattuso will take over from Luciano Spalletti, who is leaving after the 3-0 defeat to Norway and the “narrow” 2-0 victory against Moldova in the last two qualifying matches for the next World Cup.

Leading the national team to the World Cup, after years and years of absence, will be the main objective of the former AC Milan midfielder, who as a coach has sat, with varying degrees of success, on the benches of Sion, Palermo, Pisa, Milan, Napoli, Valencia, Olympique Marseille and Hajduk Split.

"Gattuso is a symbol of Italian football, the blue is like a second skin for him," said the number one of the Federation Gabriele Gravina, making official the appointment of Gattuso as the new coach.
