From today it's official, Sardinian seadas are a PGI product : in fact, this morning the European Commission approved the addition of seadas to the EU register of protected geographical indications.

Registration took place under six names: Sebadas, Seadas, Sabadas, Seattas, Savadas, Sevadas . The seadas thus become the 145th Italian PGI product and are the ninth denomination among the PDO and PGI food for Sardinia.

The typical dessert that enters the world's excellence is made of fresh semolina pasta, fresh pecorino or cow's milk, all flavored with lemon and sprinkled with honey.

The process to obtain the brand lasted 4 years and involved a dozen manufacturing companies : La casa della nonna in Bolotana, Richard Marci's fresh pasta and pastry shop in Cardedu, the Contini pasta factories in Santa Giusta, Calitai in Cagliari , Antonio Cossu of Iglesias, again, I Sapori d'Ogliastra of Vito Arra, La fornarina bakery of Marco Orrù of Cagliari, Biscottificio Demelas of Stintino and La Sfoglia d'Oro of Sassari.

"An extraordinary result - declares Franco Calisai, president of the Sebadas di Sardegna IGP promoting committee which is based in the Cna Ogliastra - a protection for the consumer and a way to subtract the product from attempts to usurp the name".

On the island it is estimated that there is a production of 2 million products a year, equal to about 1,600 quintals, with a turnover of over 2.5 million euros .
