The first phase of the works was completed in November 2021, and the intervention for the enhancement of the Belveghile archaeological complex in Olbia, promoted by the Ministry of Culture, resumes .
The first excavation campaign, which lasted five months and covered approximately one thousand square meters, brought to light a type of monument never found before in the Nuragic settlements in Gallura. An apsidal hut, seventeen meters long, divided into several rooms, and over one hundred stone and terracotta tools (some intact) that suggest the presence of a large laboratory used for artisanal activities.
By the end of the year, the completion of the first batch of works will return the site to its use : the creation of reception facilities, the arrangement of a parking lot for visitors and a covering of the overpass by which it is protected by overhanging it for about ten meters are planned.
Discovered during the inauguration of the Circonvallazione ovest in 1987, the nuraghe dating back to the Bronze Age, ending up under the road, was saved from destruction thanks to the commitment of the Superintendence of Sassari and Nuoro. Its unfortunate position, swallowed up by the infrastructural development that hit the city in the 1980s, had made it a hidden treasure and now the Mibact project intends to exploit what cannot be changed by enhancing the coexistence of ancient and modern history, unique in the panorama of the island, and transforming the nuraghe Belveghile into a gateway to the beauties of the city, between the Gallura countryside, the industrial and residential hub of Olbia.
