The Man museum in Nuoro has a new director: she is the art historian Chiara Gatti, who has already directed museums, curated international exhibitions and is also known as an essayist and journalist.
For the Man Museum, Chiara Gatti, born in the province of Varese in 1973, had signed two exhibitions: the first in 2014 on Alberto Giacometti and the second in 2018 on Futurist women.
The selection for the top of the Nuoro Museum of Modern Art, to replace Luigi Fassi who has reached the end of his mandate, leaves behind a trail of controversy. In mid-December the interviews with the six candidates admitted to the selection, from which the name of the winner should have come out, had been canceled because three of the six professionals admitted - Davide Mariani, Efisio Carbone and Concettina Ghisu - had rejected two of the three members of the commission examiner, or the former director of Man Lorenzo Giusti and Gabriella Belli, art historian and director of the Foundation of the Civic Museums of Venice, for an alleged "conflict of interest" in relation to Gatti, who boasted of previous collaborations with both Giusti than with Belli. The Province of Nuoro, to which the museum belongs, had rejected the objection, but both Giusti and Belli had resigned. They were replaced by Angela Tecce, president of the mother museum in Naples and the art historian Anna Mattirolo. The new interview took place yesterday for four of the six candidates: two of the three authors of the appeal, Efisio Carbone and Davide Mariani, in fact, did not appear. Then late in the evening the choice fell on Chiara Gatti.
