199 yes, 102 no and no abstentions: the Nordio bill was definitively approved by the Chamber, thus giving the green light to the abolition of abuse of office and the crackdown on influence trafficking.

With this vote, article 323 disappears from the penal code, but the provisions also concern telephone interceptions, especially in relation to people unrelated to the investigation in question. In fact, «changes to the regulation of interception are established in order to strengthen the protection of third parties unrelated to the proceedings with respect to the circulation of intercepted communications». In detail, the ban on publication - even partial - of the content of the wiretaps has been introduced, which applies in all cases in which the latter is not reproduced by the judge in the justification of a provision or used during the hearing".

Not only that, another area is the new rules on preventive detention: precautionary custody orders will have to be decided by a panel of three judges, not by the investigating judge alone as today.

«The approval of this bill represents a turning point in strengthening guarantees for suspects and a hand extended to all public administrators, who will no longer be afraid to sign. I would like to thank all the parliamentarians, government colleagues and the entire ministry staff for this important result", said Carlo Nordio after the approval.
