Nobody talks about the Sassari University Campus anymore
Two failed projects that caused the loss of over 20 million euros already allocatedPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
By now it has been forgotten or we prefer not to remember it, but Sassari remained without a university campus despite the 26 million euros made available by the Fas Funds, which later became the Fund for Development and Cohesion. The final farewell to the hopes of a project born in 2012 was given two years ago, when it was realized that the area of Piandanna chosen for the construction of the work was not suitable due to the discovery, during the excavations, of important remains from the Roman era.
The proposal made by the Municipality to use the ex Befotrofio area never took off. There were regrets (but not political remorse) for having abandoned the initial idea - in 2012 - to build the campus in the ex Semoliere area, given that the lack of approval by the City Council on the necessary urban variant had forced the project to be abandoned.
So, to date, the University of Sassari does not have its own campus. The problem is not so much the number of beds, which are exhaustively covered by the opening of the former Fondazione Brigata Sassari in via Carlo Felice, but rather having a structure in the city that also includes sports facilities (there are only those of the Cus in the San Giovanni district) and other services capable of characterizing Sassari as a university city.
Rector Gavino Mariotti is working hard on the spaces, with the opening of the building in Largo Porta Nuova, the renovation of the unused part of the central office and the inauguration of new classrooms, but the fact remains that Sassari, due to the mistakes made in the decade between 2012 and 2022, has been unable to create the university campus and take advantage of the substantial government funding. Contradicting the repeated triumphal announcements on the completion of the work.
