Employers and trade unions have not been able to agree on a possible time extension of the salary increases of domestic workers, carers and babysitters. And for this reason, already in the month of January the salaries of workers in the domestic sector , adjusting to inflation, will increase by 9.2% .

On the basis of the provisions of article 38 of the national contract, for the minimum wages of the sector there is an adjustment to the cost of living according to the Istat index at 80% for wages and 100% for accommodation and meals allowances .

Employers' associations had proposed staggering the increases due to family carers over the course of the year , in order to limit the economic impact of the increases on family budgets. But the trade unions, Filcams-Cgil, Fisascat-Cisl, Uiltucs and Federcolf, have not accepted the proposal put forward by the employers' associations: "These are surprising requests - says Emanuela Loretone of Filcams-Cgil - it would be a matter of derogating from the national contract by penalizing a sector that already enjoys far fewer rights than the rest of the world of work». "Unfortunately there was an attempt , we worked hard but our proposal to introduce the increases from early March and not from January to give families some breathing room was not accepted and, indeed, there was a relaunch so that at the end of the year the families would have had to face a higher expense than that foreseen by the automatic adjustment» explains the president of Assindatcolf and vice president of Fidaldo Andrea Zini specifying that for their part the employers' associations «worked to mitigate, not to cancel increases". And Zini himself warns against the risk that this decision will trigger recourse to undeclared work.

Employers therefore hope that the government will intervene in a short time with concrete measures to support families ("not only reliefs for the regular hiring as envisaged by the National Plan for the fight against undeclared work in force since last December but also targeted economic aid " ). The trade unions instead want a discussion on the resources of the Pnrr to support a sector that meets the needs of society.

According to the calculations of the Assindatcolf, already from the January paycheck for families the greatest increases (if they are not already absorbed in the agreed salaries) could be had for those figures hired with long hours or in a cohabitation regime , as in the case of carers (level Cs): the minimum salary will go from 1,026.34 euros to 1,120.76 euros , plus 94 euros more per month, to which will also be added the increase in contributions, bringing the total annual cost from 17,177 to 18,752 euros, or 1,575 euros more .

The impact on non-cohabiting babysitters hired full-time (40 hours) (level Bs) is even heavier : the minimum salary will go from 1,234 to 1,348.53 euros , almost 115 euros more per month, while the total annual cost ( also including contributions, severance indemnity, holidays and thirteenth month) will undergo an increase of 1,743 euros.
