Farewell to Ninnino Orrù, the former president of Cagliari Calcio died at the age of 84 .
A well-known face in the island's business community, he led the red and blue team between 1991 and 1992, after the presidency of his brother Tonino , of whom he had been vice.
Orrù was a witness and protagonist of Claudio Ranieri's first triumphal ride and Cagliari's double epic climb from C to A. At the time, he was assistant to his brother Tonino. He is also the one who marked the end of the Orrù era at Cagliari with the transfer to Massimo Cellino in the summer of 1992. For him, the disappointment of not enjoying the team's qualification for the UEFA Cup, something that would only happen the following year with Cellino at the helm. That team included many of the historic players of the Orrù management including Ielpo, Festa, Cappioli, who later returned to Roma.
In 2022, when negotiations were underway for Sir Claudio's return to Cagliari, Ninnino Orrù launched an appeal on the pages of our newspaper: « Claudio, you have to choose, I can only tell you that we are waiting for you ».
Cagliaritano from Sant'Avendrace, he has always remained tied to the neighborhood where he had properties that he managed until the end. Struck by an illness, his conditions had worsened in July. A little over a year ago his brother Tonino died.
