Nightmare locusts, the CIA attacks the Region: "It hasn't done enough"
The Italian Confederation of Sardinian Farmers: "It is intolerable, with the experience and knowledge acquired, that the problem has not yet been eradicated""Despite appeals, mobilizations and protests for the fifth consecutive year, the farms of central Sardinia, whose territories are completely devastated by locusts , find themselves powerless and reduced to the verge of despair".
The new alert comes from the CIA, the Italian Confederation of Sardinian Farmers: «It is intolerable, given the experience and knowledge acquired, that the eradication of the locust problem has not yet been achieved. The Region should intervene by immediately restoring the damages to the farmers, breeders and all the damaged economic categories», is the new appeal, accompanied by the request for compensation for last year's damages.
Cia Sardegna calls the Region into question: " The actions implemented to date appear to be insufficient or useless , despite the various cries of alarm that in unsuspecting times called for, as well as serious programming of the interventions and the involvement of all subjects interested, also forces and extraordinary means useful to face the phenomenon". Nothing has been done for the CIA and the agricultural enterprises are now paying the bills which «after the many problems linked to production costs and the speculative processes underway, are reduced to total desperation and see their very existence jeopardized due to the 'absolute absence of a serious planning of the necessary interventions'.
The association asks that the Region not abandon the damaged companies: « The problem of refreshments must be tackled and recognized with determination , for which the Region must intervene promptly to compensate the damages to all subjects, without the usual bureaucratic delays. We are tired of chasing after emergencies - conclude the CIA leaders - we want to have the possibility of continuing to work on our island, possibly guaranteeing a future for our young people too".
