While Nuoro prepares for the celebrations of the Redeemer, on the beach of Platamona the artist Nicola Urru is the protagonist of a new work of art on the sand that pays homage to his hometown, reproducing the statue of Christ on Mount Ortobene .
For Urru, a Nuorese who has lived in Sassari for a long time, an idea that has matured for some time, reflecting on the bond of faith and tradition that ties the Barbagia people to the festival. Many appreciations on social media, the work went viral in a few hours on Facebook and Instagram.
"Even though I live far from Nuoro - says Urru - I have never lost my connection with home, often returning to meet friends and relatives. I wanted to give a gift to the city and to all the emigrants who live far away , the work represents what the Redentore festival and the statue on the Ortobene mean to us".
Urru adds: «The work was demanding, with an entire day spent modeling the sand, to create a statue 20 meters long and 10 meters wide. I tried to faithfully reproduce the features of the original, appreciated throughout the world for its uniqueness».
"The positive comments that have arrived from all over Sardinia and beyond are a pure emotion, which repays me for the commitment spent in this noble cause", he concludes.
