It is the smallest of the flutes but when it goes to the high notes it manages to stand out in the orchestra as well as in military bands. Nicola Mazzanti is considered one of the best piccolo specialists in the world, protagonist on Tuesday in the Sassu Hall of the Sassari Conservatory (at 8.30 pm) as part of the Spring Concerts organized by the Ellipsis association.

Piccolo soloist of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino from 1988 to 2020, Nicola Mazzanti carries out an intense activity as a soloist and in chamber music groups both with the flute and with the "piccolo", in Italy and abroad. A convinced supporter of the piccolo as an expressive solo voice, he is regularly invited to the most prestigious international flute conventions and has published numerous CDs entirely dedicated to the original "piccolo" repertoire. He is the artistic director of the International Piccolo Festival, a unique event in the world held every year in Grado, and of the International Piccolo Flute Academy, an online academy that brings together the best piccolo players on the planet.

Nicola Mazzanti, who will be accompanied on the piano by Matteo Taras, will perform the Sonata in F major K376 for violin and piano by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart transcribed for piccolo, Barcarola and Scherzo for flute and piano by Alfredo Casella adapted for piccolo, Four Jewish Pieces by Christopher Caliendo for piccolo and piano, the Sonata for Piccolo and Piano by Amanda Harberg and, by Harberg herself, Fever Dreams for three piccolos and piano, with the participation of Conservatory teachers Wendy Allen and Tony Chessa.
