"The newsstand network is the territorial garrison of information pluralism and represents a vital link in the publishing chain." This was stated by the president of the Italian Federation of Newspaper Publishers, Andrea Riffeser Monti , during a meeting with Alberto Barachini, Undersecretary of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers with responsibility for Information and Publishing . "Its protection and modernization," Riffeser added, "respond not only to the economic needs of the sector, but to the country's general interest." Along with Fieg, the newsstand unions (SNAG, SINAGHI, FENAG, UILTCUS, USIAG, FAG) also participated in the meeting.

The Government

Alberto Barachini assured that, consistent with financial sustainability, the Department is already working on a measure to support the newsstand sector and other extraordinary measures for the publishing sector. The document highlights how "the press sales network represents an essential infrastructure for ensuring citizens' access to free and pluralistic information." Among the main proposals are the digitalization of points of sale and distribution processes, support for technological investments, the development of new local services, the recognition of press distribution as a service of general interest, and the establishment of a permanent roundtable.
