A new step towards a more inclusive Sardinia. The Regional Council has approved the continuation of the project “Innovate, inform, participate – new methodologies for communication of people with hearing loss”, aimed at improving accessibility to communication for deaf and hearing-impaired people. 189 thousand euros are available, coming from the National Fund for Inclusion, assigned to the Region with a decree of the Ministry for Disabilities.
The project, launched in 2021, aims to experiment with innovative tools for the automatic translation of LIS, the Italian Sign Language, using technologies based on artificial intelligence models. The initiative was born from the collaboration between the Directorate-General for Social Policies, Sardegna Ricerche and CRS4, the center for research, development and higher education in Sardinia.
"We thought it was essential to give continuity to an activity that directly involved deaf people and their associations," explained the regional health councilor, Armando Bartolazzi. "Their contribution was a key element in the evolution of the project."
The new tranche of funds, referring to the 2023 financial year, will allow us to continue the activities already started in previous financial years, further expanding the use of digital tools for accessible communication in public services and in daily interactions.
