Two days after the conference of services, where once again the construction of the new Cagliari stadium has been extended , the president of the rossoblù club Tommaso Giulini is speaking out asking for a quick resolution to the issue. After years of waiting, the club hopes that an answer will arrive quickly without further delays: «For years we have been doing everything possible - sacrificing time and investing resources - to give Cagliari a new stadium», Giulini's post on X. « Whoever is responsible should demonstrate soon whether we really want to do it or whether we are destined to remain stuck in bureaucracy ».

Last Wednesday, Giulini (together with CEO Carlo Catte and General Manager Stefano Melis) had an initial meeting on the topic with Mayor Massimo Zedda, Councilor for Sport Giuseppe Macciotta and Councilor for Urban Planning Matteo Lecis Cocco Ortu, in which the parties reaffirmed their unity of purpose to accelerate – as much as possible – the process for the construction of the new facility. The day before yesterday, however, new requests for further information emerged from the conference of services led by the Environmental Impact Assessment service of the Region . The minutes of the meeting with individual opinions are expected by mid-October.

The project for Cagliari's new stadium - to be named after Gigi Riva - has been on the table for several years, with Sant'Elia having been abandoned in June 2017 and awaiting demolition to make way for a 25,000-seat facility, which is also part of Cagliari's candidacy as host city for the 2032 European Championships. Since the 2017-2018 season, the rossoblù have been playing at Unipol Domus as a temporary stadium.
