«To further improve the offering that our museums want to give to the public, to all the public: to that of Sardinia and to that arriving from other regions of Italy, from Europe and from all over the world».

This is the vision of Melissa Ricetti, originally from Valtellina and raised in Trieste, who took over the leadership of the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Sardinia on February 5th. An orientalist archaeologist, trained in Italy and Turkey and with a doctorate from Sapienza University of Rome, Ricetti's background is strongly tied to field research and international archaeological missions. Since 2018, she has been an official at the Ministry of Culture, with experience gained in Friuli Venezia Giulia between the Regional Secretariat and the Superintendency. In 2025, she passed the competitive exam for technical managers, thus taking on her first management role, succeeding Francesco Muscolino.

"I am honored to be here and to be able to offer my commitment and everything I learned during my ministerial experience in Friuli Venezia Giulia, in Trieste, which I will now make available, as a manager, in my first assignment at the Regional Directorate." The aim, continues the young director, is to "provide continuity in the direction, both in terms of projects and for the staff distributed across the various cultural sites." A comprehensive network of museums and museum spaces that includes, among others, institutions such as the National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari, the National Art Gallery of Cagliari, the "Giorgio Asproni" National Archaeological Museum, the "GA Sanna" Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum, the National Art Gallery of Sassari, the Turritano Antiquarium, and the Garibaldi Compendium of Caprera. "A vast and diverse cultural heritage, requiring timely and specific projects to be accessible to different audiences: from children, to schools, to visitors who may simply come here for a holiday."

The new director's goal is to adapt "to the diverse audiences that gravitate toward our museums, making an extra effort to reach even those who are a little more hesitant, but who could benefit from being exposed to our places."
