Radja Nainggolan, fresh from his experience in Indonesian football and who seemed on the verge of retiring, has decided to get back into the game, at 36 years of age, but he will do so by playing in a “futsal” team, or five-a-side football .

The former Cagliari, Roma and Inter midfielder has accepted the offer of Hassania Mechelen, an amateur team in the Belgian third division based a few kilometres from Antwerp, Nainggolan's hometown.

"We offer him a welcoming club where he is completely respected. I don't think he should do it for the money anymore," said a director of his new team.

Ninja's last experience in "traditional" football was at Spal from January to June 2023. With the choice of futsal, the Belgian midfielder followed the example of his twin sister Riana, a five-a-side football player.
