Rafa Nadal has officially announced his retirement from competition with a video posted on his social media profiles.

The Davis Cup Final 8 in Malaga from 19 to 24 November will be his last tournament as a professional tennis player.

"The truth is that they have been difficult years, especially the last two ," the Spaniard explained in the video. "I think I'm not capable of playing without limitations. Obviously it's a difficult decision, it took time to make it, but in life everything has a beginning and an end and I think it's the right time to end my career. It's been a long and successful career, more than I imagined."

The Majorcan, born in Manacor on June 3, 1986, is a tennis legend with 14 Roland Garros won (an absolute record), 4 US Opens, 2 Wimbledons and 2 Australian Opens. In addition to his unforgettable successes in the slams, he has won 36 Masters 1000s and the Olympic gold in singles in Beijing 2008.
