Leonardo Mutti and Tan Wenling are the new absolute Italian champions of the absolute singles table tennis. They respectively succeed Niagol Stojanov and Giorgia Piccolin. The absolute, second and third category Italian championships close after eight days of competitions in Cagliari, at the Pala Pirastu. An event that brought more than six hundred people to the capital, including athletes and insiders, and the best the Italian tennis movement can offer.

Leonardo Mutti defeated Italian number one Mihai Bobocica in five sets in the final, while Italian-Chinese Tan Wenling overcame Chiara Colantoni in the seventh set. From the semifinals, in fact, the best of seven sets is played.

The final day will instead be remembered for the incredible epilogue of the semifinal between Leonardo Mutti and Johnny Oyebode, from Cagliari, currently in Germany and registered in Italy with TT Sassari. Oyebode won the first two sets, lost the third with Mutti canceling two set points (8-10 to 12-10), and the fourth 9-8 to 9-11. The large audience was passionate and supported Oyebode who won the fifth, and in the sixth he had three match points available. Mutti, who was number one in Italy, didn't let himself be intimidated and won 13-11. We go to seventh, Oyebode is ahead 9-4, but the wind changes with two points from the final.

Mutti patiently puts in a 7-0 run, wins the match and goes to the final, amid Oybode's tears and the applause of the public. Despite the cheering and tension, he didn't lose sight of what was happening at the other table, where Bobocica and Piccolin put on a show, with Italy's number one victorious 4-1.

In the women's tournament Norbello's Veronica Mosconi stopped in the quarterfinals , beaten by Colantoni in three sets, the last one endless, finished 18-16.

The week of the Italian championships ended with the two singles titles. They were a success for the organization and for the technical level, with the strongest men and women present. But it was a success for the Sardinian clubs which, thanks to the players who wear their jerseys, won six gold medals, one silver and thirteen bronze. The gold medals are shared between Norbello (three), Muravera (two) and TT Sassari (one).
