From Brahms to Moricone passing through Puccini.
A tantalizing program proposed by the Duo Mistral on Tuesday at the Teatro Civico in Sassari (8:30 p.m.) to open the eleventh edition of the Melos Festival, organized by the Centro Studi Saser. The peculiarity of the festival is that it combines music with the history of art: the concert will be preceded by an introduction by the art historian Alessandro Ponzeletti who from time to time describes the origin and curiosities of the place that hosts the evening.
The Duo Mistral is formed by Antonio Puglia on clarinet and Mariano Meloni on piano. The program entitled “Music without borders” includes the performance of the Sonata op. 120 n.1 by Johannes Brahms, some of the famous soundtracks by Ennio Morricone and the poignant Sholem Alekhem by Béla Kovács, a tribute to the Yiddish world and Eastern European Jewish culture, the great opera arias by Giacomo Puccini and Gipsy Clarinet Jazz by Antonio Saracino. Of particular interest will be the world premiere of Broadway 1920 , written for the occasion by pianist and composer Roberto Piana and dedicated to the Duo Mistral.
Melos also combines music and art with solidarity: the proceeds from Tuesday evening will be entirely donated to AMMI, the Association of Italian Doctors' Wives, which will allocate the sum collected to solidarity projects in the area.
