He hoped to bounce back from Rome after his injury in Australia (while leading 2-0 in the quarterfinals against Djokovic) and a return with mixed results. Instead, Lorenzo Musetti is sidelined again and will have to miss Roland Garros, where last year he reached the semifinals, losing to Carlos Alcaraz.
The tests the Carrara-born tennis player underwent after losing to Casper Ruud in Rome revealed a lesion of the rectus femoris in his left thigh, which will force him to stay out for several weeks.
"This news weighs heavily on me," she wrote on her social media, announcing that she will also miss the Hamburg tournament, ending a season that ended with her dropping out of the top ten.
"After yesterday's match, I underwent medical tests that revealed a lesion in my rectus femoris, which will require me to rest and recover for a few weeks. Unfortunately, this prevents me from participating in the tournaments in Hamburg and Roland Garros, which is a huge blow to me," Musetti wrote. "A heartfelt thank you to the Rome crowd for their extraordinary support: it was the reason why, even though I wasn't 100% fit, I wanted to step out onto the court and give it my all at my home tournament. I'll keep you updated."
