Two years ago he put aside a secure job - maître in one of the most renowned tourist villages in Villasimius - to pursue a dream: to become a director. Today Gabriele Carrus, a 38-year-old from Muravera, is making that dream come true: in January he will begin shooting his first film.

«Six months ago – explains Carrus – I was asked to direct and produce a film based on a work by the writer Giovanni Firinu, the novel "Il riscatto". Now, after months of planning, it is in the production phase».

The film, written by Massimo Mazzoni, will be shot in the areas of Lake Omodeo and will be supported, among others, by the Municipalities of Sorradile, Ardauli, Neoneli and Busachi.

Carrus made his debut in the world of cinema last year with “Solo Pietre”, a short documentary film set in 1940 between the mines of Villasalto and the most evocative places of Sarrabus and Gerrei. The work has received several international awards: among the many, an award at the Abu Dhabi International Film Festival and another at the Queen City Film Festival (Cincinnati, Ohio).

Now the first real film, lasting over an hour: "There is a lot of sacrifice behind it - adds Carrus - I hope to do a good job. My goal is also to promote Sardinia. With the docufilm Solo Pietre I think I succeeded, now a new challenge". Several associations in the area have joined the new project for "active and very valuable" support.

Filming should continue for three months. In the meantime, on December 7th in Muravera (at the headquarters of Radio La Voce) the director will select female and male extras of all ages for the next films to be shot in Sardinia.
