The large faces of serene women, with their eyes often closed, which recall dream worlds, are among the most recognizable images of Angelo Maggi, a painter and sculptor who also worked in the world of set design and advertising. The artist from Sassari died at 71.

In Sassari he created the sculpture of the fountain in via Brigata Sassari. One of his great works is also exhibited in the Council Hall of the Municipality. Another was donated to the Police Headquarters.

Born in 1953, Angelo Maggi had illustrious teachers at the city art institute: Stanis Dessy, Gavino Tilocca, Aldo Contini and Zaza Calzia. After touring and exhibiting in Italy, in the 1980s he opened a space in his city and his works were in great demand.

The international breakthrough came in 2001 when the Worpal Gallery in San Francisco ordered a dozen large-format works from him. Then the exhibitions between Salt Lake City and New York where the artist often returned. In 2014 he achieved great success at the ExMa in Cagliari. In recent years he was in great demand in France, where he obtained several awards, and some of his works were used for posters and catalogs on the French Riviera.
