One week before the run-off, Valentina Picciau's coalition is expanding . The mayoral candidate, who obtained 21.5% of the votes in the first round, will challenge the outgoing Tomaso Locci, who instead got 40.2% . Picciau hopes he can overturn the result.

Right from the start, one of the two defeated candidates, Efisio Sanna, said he was willing to support her in the run-off . Therefore, in addition to Picciau's initial lists - Pauli Monserrato, La Svolta- Progressisti, Movimento 5 Stelle and Uniti per Monserrato - the three forces that supported Sanna were added with the alliance: Pd, Cultura è Libertà and Ora Sardegna. A wide field, in short .

«The elections of 8 and 9 June decreed that 60% of voters do not believe they want to continue on the line adopted by the administration now at the end of its mandate , leading to a run-off», declares Picciau's staff in a press release: « The The democratic area of Monserrato rallied around Picciau , promoting the confrontation between his coalition and the one led by Sanna, which highlighted full convergence on issues that put the citizen first. The assessments during the meeting between the parties confirmed the existence of a common political line which led to the need to come together to support Valentina Picciau as much as possible in the final act of the electoral race".

The statement cites some themes on which convergence was found : «The restoration of the political viability of the City Council must have a central role in the comparison of opinions between the various forces, in planning and decisions. It is important to promote the democratic participation of citizens within the Municipality , encouraging continuous and active discussion. We must especially develop health protection for citizens and activate concrete services to support young couples, parents, students and operators and users of the Polyclinic , making Monserrato a place of study, residence and social life. It is essential to integrate the University Citadel and the Polyclinic through the reorganization of the main roads and the metro tram system which is concentrated on our territory. Furthermore, we must promote trade with initiatives for the socio-economic development of the territory, encouraging dialogue with the administration. To combat depopulation we need to focus on redevelopment plans, review the technical standards of the historic center and develop the suburbs . Finally", concludes the press note, "create socio-cultural paths to improve the quality of people's lives".

The other loser, Alberto Corda , candidate of the centre-right, breaks the silence and in thanking the citizens who voted for him, does not give any indication of his vote "given the distance from both projects of the two contenders" and leaves freedom of choice: " From the day after the vote we will begin to mount a constructive opposition to any majority there will be." On social media some of those who voted for Corda do not hide their desire to vote for Picciau, against Locci.
