From one Conti to another. After Manuel, signed in September, Monastir has also signed Daniele Conti's eldest son: Bruno, born in 2002, also a midfielder.
He joins from Pompei, where he started the season in Group I of Serie D, and will be available to Marcello Angheleddu starting Sunday's derby in Olbia (2:30 PM). A high-caliber signing, with the son of a footballing genius—playing alongside his brother for the first time—returning to Sardinia three and a half years after finishing his career with Cagliari's youth team.
His father, Daniele, dedicated a goal to him against Torino in 2013, celebrating with him, who was working as a ball boy at Is Arenas that day. He was named Bruno after his grandfather, a legend of the 1982 Italian champions and of Roma.
He made his debut with Cagliari in the Primavera on September 20, 2019 with a splendid goal against Empoli and played for three seasons with the Rossoblù Under-19s, earning a qualification for the play-offs for the title, before moving to Verona and subsequently being sent on loan to Mantova, where he was able to make his first team debut playing in Serie C. He subsequently also spent time at Monterosi and Brindisi.
"I'm very happy to be here," were Conti's first words after signing. "My family and I grew up in Cagliari, and it's wonderful to be back in Sardinia. I'm making myself available to the team, trying to do my best when the coach deems it appropriate to use me. It's the first time I've been able to play with my brother, and I'm very pleased. Being on the team with him is an extra boost because it's one of the best things there is. Compared to the Cagliari youth academy, I think I've improved mentally and grown in many ways. I'm really eager to prove myself on the pitch: my dad always taught us that words mean little and that you have to prove your worth through actions."
While one of the talented players is on the way, another is leaving for Monastir. David Edoardo Suazo, who scored four goals in the first nine league games, missed the matches against Flaminia and Scafatese due to negotiations with Serie C side Altamura. The transfer is expected to be finalized in the coming days. In his place, Sicilian striker Alberto Leone, born in 2003, has arrived, signed from Favara. "When this opportunity arose, I didn't think twice; I wanted to test myself in a new context," said the new signing. "I found a family atmosphere and a very close-knit group, which helped me bond straight away, and I can't wait to get on the pitch. I know some of the teams in Group G, and then we have a derby on Sunday, and these games prepare themselves."
