The unitary law proposal of the oppositions on the minimum wage has been deposited in the Chamber. All the oppositions (M5s, SI, Action, Pd, Green Europe and +Europe) presented it except Italia Viva.

Entitled "Provisions for the establishment of the minimum wage", it is signed by all the leaders of the opposition parties who are also deputies and by their respective group leaders in Montecitorio. It consists of eight articles.

The first article provides that in implementation of article 36, first paragraph, of the Constitution, employers, entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs, «are required to pay the workers referred to in article 2094 of the civil code a sufficient and proportionate overall salary the quantity and quality of the work performed.

The guaranteed minimum wage provided for in the proposal is nine euros per hour. The text provides that the budget law for 2024 defines a temporary benefit to accompany the adjustment to the hourly salary of 9.00 euros of any lower wages provided for by collective agreements in less developed sectors from a sociological point of view.

The center-right has already announced that it will vote against the text.

«It is a very important day – wrote Giuseppe Conte on Facebook -. For years, the 5 Star Movement has been fighting for the legal minimum wage of 9 euros an hour and today we filed a proposal shared by all the opposition forces, with the exception of Italia Viva. Giorgia Meloni, who also earns 30 times as much, in the speech to the Chambers for trust she defined herself as "underdog", i.e. "disadvantaged". May the Prime Minister stop saying no to the minimum wage and do not forget those who really are "disadvantaged", those who are left behind with starvation paychecks that do not even allow them to satisfy the most basic needs. This is a necessary measure for the country, to give breathing space to over 4 million workers, especially young people and women".
