The world of cooperatives is satisfied with the encouraging signs of the 2022/2023 milk campaign, at least on two fronts: both on the recognition of milk payment to farmers and on cheese sales , with Pecorino Romano obtaining prices that are absolutely better than Italian PDOs and worldwide.

This is what emerges from the Legacoop Sardegna report: from February to May the price per kilogram of Pecorino Romano remained stable at 14.05 euros with a slight contraction from June, considered physiological by sector experts, given that the price always remains above 13 euros.

«This contraction in the sales price - observes Legacoop - is mainly due to the drop in consumption in general and the 12.26% increase in production of the past dairy campaign equal to 40 thousand quintals more and the addition of the significant gap compared to the products grana vaccines (Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano), calls us to plan a preventive organization of the next campaign, as well as a careful evaluation of future scenarios and the development of foreign markets, especially Asian ones".

In the meantime, the processing cooperatives have recorded remuneration for members above 1.80 euros, with peaks above 2 euros.

«Today we take stock three years after the start of a path that has seen a growth in the price of Pecorino and in the remuneration of milk, with an advantage for the cooperators - said Daniele Caddeo, general director of Legacoop - today we have decided to carry out this initiative in the presence of representatives of the cooperatives to explain how the market went".
