Italy won a double in the Milan-Cortina Olympic skicross . Under heavy snowfall in Livigno , Simone Deromedis won gold, beating the other Italian competitor, Federico Tomasoni.

"We're very happy . We were counting on it a lot, we believed in it a lot, but we were a bit silent. Deromedis has been doing well all season; he finished fifth in Beijing. Tomasoni too. We're a very competitive team." These are the immediate words of CONI Secretary General Carlo Mornati, after the Italian team's double in ski cross .

Mornati's recipe for making these disciplines known to more people is clear: " It's just television. They take root in local communities. Yesterday, there were so many children for Jole Galli. Olympic coverage has the advantage of showing that there's a passion for these sports too."
