Just days before the official opening ceremony, the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics are facing their first case of doping . Italian biathlete Rebecca Passler tested positive during an out-of-competition test.

The 24-year-old Italian athlete reportedly tested positive for letrozole , a third-generation aromatase inhibitor used primarily to treat hormone-dependent breast cancer in postmenopausal women. Passler, who will likely be suspended from competition , is the niece of former Italian biathlete Johann Passler .

This isn't the first time one of our athletes has tested positive for this substance. In 2017, the same result resulted in a ten-month ban for tennis player Sara Errani . In that case, the International Tennis Federation ruled it was food contamination.
