An international comparison in the name of inclusion . From Monday until tomorrow, Thursday 30 June, the University of Cagliari hosts the European delegations involved in the international project Erasmus + Smile (Social meaningful impact through lll universities in Europe).

In these four days, representatives of the teaching, technical and administrative staff, student body and governance, led by the rector Francesco Mola and by the signatory of the project for UniCa, the pro-rector for internationalization, Alessandra Carucci, tested the effectiveness of the "Diversity audit model " .

Ester Cois, Vice Rector for Gender Equality, explains: “It was developed in collaboration with five European universities and five NGOs . This audit model is innovative and offers higher education institutes and research centers of excellence the opportunity to reflect on their own approach and operational direction on the issues of enhancing diversity and promoting internal inclusion ".

The Smile project focuses on inclusiveness in university education . And it refers in particular to three thematic pillars: past migration experience, gender inequalities and the background of socio-economic vulnerability. "By acting on these three priority areas - adds Cois - Smile intends to support students in situations of disadvantage for reasons of ethnic and geographical origin, gender connotation, socio-economic conditions of departure, promoting their educational participation, progress and results academics ".

“The delegations are made up of researchers from universities and research and social promotion institutions involved. We aim - added the Vice Rector for Gender Equality - to account for both the measures and operational policies in the main issues, and to assess the validity and usefulness of this audit tool for the formulation of new operational proposals on the subject. of inclusion ".

The audit was conducted and moderated by Ester Cois (scientific referent for the Smile-UniCa project) with the collaboration of the teacher Barbara Barbieri . The pro-rectors of Internationalization and Communication and Image, Alessandra Carucci and Elisabetta Gola , and the rector's delegate for international projects, Luigi Raffo , also took part in the work.

Representatives of the Eucen network (Belgium), University Johannes Gutenberg Mainz (Germany), Maynooth University (Ireland) and Fundació Solidaritat UB (Spain) took part in the work. The delegates of the European students union (Belgium), the University of Turku (Finland), the University of Malta, the Gheorghe Asachi technical university of Iaşi (Romania) and the non-profit social research agency Notus (Spain).
