Michael Douglas announces his retirement from acting.
“I have not worked since 2022 on purpose, because I realized that I had to stop,” confessed the actor - 80 years old, winner of two Oscars, four Golden Globes, a BAFTA Award and an Emmy Award - during the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic.
"I've worked hard for almost 60 years and I don't want to be one of those people who dies on set. I have no real plan to go back," he added, while admitting that now "I have a small independent film, which I'm trying to get a good script out of."
The actor, son of the great Kirk Douglas and husband of Catherine Zeta-Jones, spoke during the event about the throat cancer he was diagnosed with in the summer of 2010 : "Stage IV cancer is not a vacation, but there aren't many alternatives, right? I followed the protocol, which included chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and I was lucky."
