An incredible game for intensity and crazy shots. Which Jannik Sinner first seemed to dominate, then let slip and finally took back with authority.
With an extraordinary performance for the character shown even more than for the expressed tennis, the boy from Alto Adige reached his second final at the "Miami Open", according to the seasonal ATP Masters 1000 which is about to reach its final stages on the courts in concrete of the Hard Rock Stadium facility (the "home" of the Miami Dolphins of NFL football), in Florida. The South Tyrolean thus becomes the first Italian ever to reach two finals in a Masters 1000. Tomorrow at 7pm he will challenge Medvedev in the final.
On the Italian night, in his third semifinal in a Masters 1000 (Miami 2021 and Indian Wells 2023 the previous ones), the 21-year-old from Sesto Pusteria, n.11 in the ranking and 10 in the seeding, beat in comeback 6-7 6-4 6-2, after more than three hours of fighting, the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, back at the top of the ranking after the triumph in Indian Wells and reigning champion in Miami, who due to this defeat on Monday will return the world scepter to Djokovic. For Sinner it will be the tenth final in his career with the aim of putting the eighth trophy on the showcase.
«Even tonight they played at a very high level - the blue commented hotly - I tried to do my best: in the third set I saw him in a bit of difficulty. We fought until the end, we both tried to play aggressive tennis: today I won and I'm really happy. Medvedev? Glad to revisit it again , couldn't wait. It will be different from Rotterdam because conditions are very different here. Of course I'm ready to make some changes, however I feel very comfortable in this field».
And yes, because on Sunday Sinner will play for the title precisely with the Russian Daniel Medvedev, n.5 in the ranking and 4 in the seeding, in his fifth challenge for the trophy in the last five tournaments. The 27-year-old Muscovite has won all five of his previous games with the South Tyrolean, most recently in the final in Rotterdam last month. The South Tyrolean is experiencing his best start to the season ever: he has won 21 of the 25 games played so far and 17 of the last 19 (in this first part of 2023 only Medvedev, with 28, has won more games). The tennis player coached by Simone Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill has already secured his return to the top ten (he is virtually no. 9) six months after the last time: if he wins on Sunday he would rise to no. 6 ("best") .
