Meloni in the Chamber: "I reiterate: Italy will not send troops to Ukraine."
The Prime Minister addressed Parliament for communications ahead of the EU Council: "Russia is mired in a brutal war of position, requiring enormous sacrifices.""I take this opportunity to reiterate that Italy does not intend to send soldiers to Ukraine."
This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in her communications to the Chamber ahead of the EU Council.
Regarding the other crucial element of the negotiations, namely security guarantees for Ukraine as a means of averting future wars, three elements are currently being discussed. The guarantee of a solid Ukrainian army; the possibility of deploying a multinational force in Ukraine to regenerate the armed forces, led by the so-called coalition of the willing, but with voluntary participation from each country ; and guarantees from international allies—starting with the United States—based on Article 5 of the Atlantic Pact, an option that you all recall was proposed by Italy itself, demonstrating our nation's active contribution to the goal of a just and lasting peace.
It is important, he added, to " maintain pressure on Russia ," which, contrary to what the propaganda claims, "is bogged down in a brutal war of position at the cost of enormous sacrifices. This difficulty is the only thing that can force Moscow to reach an agreement ."
Then he went on to address Europe: "We are convinced that the complexity of this moment demands a pragmatic approach capable of overcoming ideological dogmatism. I believe this is the best way to respond to the new American security strategy. It is useless and harmful to launch attacks against an imaginary enemy; the real enemy is our inability to decide and the ideology of decline that the European Union has dramatically embraced in recent years ."
