A journey through Mahmood 's human, personal and professional journey, without ever entering the sentimental sphere on which the two-time winner of Sanremo (in 2019 with "Soldi" and in 2022 paired with Blanco with "Broglie") has always maintained the most strict confidentiality.

Giorgio Testi's docufilm will make its debut at the Rome Film Festival “Mahmood” which will then arrive in cinemas and - from 15 November - also on Prime Video.

I've never been so good at talking about myself, maybe that's also why I started writing songs ”, is one of the songwriter's first reflections.

The leitmotif of the docufilm is Mahmood's Italian and European tour, passed from the Bataclan in Paris to the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire in London, from the Sala But in Madrid to the Alcatraz in Milan. There are also family films and testimonials from friends, family and colleagues, from Carmen Consoli to Blanco.

Alexander Mahmoud's mother also speaks. Anna, Sardinian from Orosei , is a milestone in the life of the singer-songwriter born in 1992: “He always showed himself as a happy child, I later discovered that he expressed his discomfort in songs”, he explains.

The difficulties overcome are explored: from the difficult relationship with the Egyptian father Ahmed , also told in "Money", the frailties and professional disappointments, such as the elimination in 2012 at X Factor , the house destroyed in the fire of the Torre dei Moro in Milan in 2021. And the relationship with success that - in the words of a friend of hers - “has not changed him, on the contrary it has made him more empathetic”.

“When you decide to make a docufilm about your life and your path you have to be honest and also tell things a little more uncomfortable, as I did compared to the relationship with my father ,” Mahmood said at a press conference. “It turned out to be a very useful journey for me too, sometimes in order not to think about my problems I try to blur the memories of the past. The documentary in this sense was therapeutic, it helped me to point out certain moments ... Of course, now others know them as well ", he commented with a smile.

Again: "I did not want a pompous story, but that the more human side of this path was highlighted, I wanted to show how I really am". The film "is the antithesis of a celebration, also because seeing me pass by the pine forest in Sardinia where I cook sausages together with my family (particularly numerous among uncles and cousins) to rehearsals in the London dressing rooms does not correspond to the trait of a superstar who breaks everything ".

A teaching? Mahmood would like the docufilm to communicate that "there are no loopholes in the road to reach a goal and that in any case we shouldn't stop in front of the doors in the face".
