Homage and recognition to Giovanni Cucca, a scholar originally from Macomer, author of numerous publications on the history of the area, with unpublished documents, anecdotes and even curiosities, from the first human settlements to the second post-war period, crossing centuries of history.

An important day, because to pay homage to Giovanni Cucca, now 95 years old (his father was mayor of the town), the city council was convened for an extraordinary meeting. Mayor Antonio Succu handed over a plaque to the writer's son (Antonello Cucca), for the work done by the scholar, as a researcher and scholar who valued and disseminated the history of Macomer and its documentary heritage.

Giovanni Cucca, a former official of the Region, has in fact told the story of the town and the territory, going through centuries of history, up to the present day. The event was attended by the son, brother, sister, nephews, relatives and many friends, political and cultural representatives of the area, therefore a representation of the high schools of Macomer. The writer was connected via the web from his home in Cagliari.

Mayor Antonio Succu awarded the scholar and writer the title of professor. "We give credit - said the mayor - to a man who has rendered a unique and not negligible service for our community". Caterina Bittichesu has reconstructed the work: «Giovanni Cucca has carried out a work of great scientific and didactic depth». The councilor for culture, Gianfranco Congiu, added: «Cucca's work arouses emotions. We must not disperse this precious documentation, which preserves the true history of our town and the area".

Giovanni Cucca, live on the web, was moved by this recognition: "As soon as I can I come to Macomer to meet and thank the entire citizenry up close".
