Macomer is in mourning. Surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren, he ceased to live today, in his home in Funtana 'e Giaga, a place overlooking the capital of Marghine, Salvatorangelo Murgia Niola, a poet and shepherd who with his rhymes told the various nuances of his life and his land.

He would have turned 91 in November. A life characterized by sacrifices in his company in Pubusone and also dedicated to poetic compositions, so much so that Niola is considered one of the best poets in limba logudorese on the island.

Many of his compositions, his stories, almost all focused on life in the countryside. Salvatorangelo Murgia Niola began composing verses as a child and, alternating his appearances on the island stages with comparisons with poets of high caliber. Then the poetry at the table. Together with his wife Elena and his friend Paolo Pillonca, between the eighties and nineties he had established the poetry prize named after the poet from Macomerese Pedru Caria.
