With a concert featuring traditional Sardinian cowbells, Monica Mura, originally from Macomer, is the first Italian artist to participate in the prestigious "Visión y Presencia" performance series at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid, one of the world's leading art museums.
On April 29th, the artist consolidates a decade-long trajectory with the performance "Cuntzertu pro sonallas," a dialogue between the cowbells used in Sardinia and those of the Iberian Peninsula, highlighting the shared resonances between the ancestral rites that unite the shores from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. It is the fruit of in-depth anthropological research, with the artist synthesizing two ritual icons, the "carriga" (the load of cowbells) and the "soha" (the rope). "It's not just a performance," the artist explains, "but the construction of a new ritual space where the female voice resonates with full authority through an ecosystem of sound performances, large-scale installations, video creations, and books."
Monica Mura was already a key figure at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum ten years ago, with a cultural mediation program that culminated in the exhibition of the work "Sas Diosas. Miradas, sa arèntzia mea," a project dedicated to the roots and genealogy of Sardinian women that marked the beginning of an identity exploration that continues to expand today.
