After having toured for most of the Italian theaters and in half the world (from France to China, from Colombia to Georgia, up to Brazil and Argentina) and won the Ubu prize, the "Theater masks" prize, that of theatrical criticism and other international awards, Alessandro Serra's "Macbettu" in Sardinian arrives in Bologna, from 7 to 10 April at the Arena del Sole.
The show, which stages Shakespeare's tragedy, is performed by men only as in the purest Elizabethan tradition.
"The idea was born during a photographic reportage between the carnivals of Barbagia - explains Serra, who is director, author, scenographer and light designer - The dark sounds produced by cowbells and ancient instruments, the skins of animals, the horns, the cork. The power of gestures and voice, the confidence with Dionysus and at the same time the incredible formal precision in the dances and songs. The dark masks and then the blood, the red wine, the forces of nature tamed by man. But especially the dark winter ".
The show shows the analogies between the Shakespearean masterpiece and the types and masks of Sardinia.
"The Sardinian language - adds Serra - does not limit the fruition but transforms into song what in Italian would risk becoming literature. An empty stage space, crossed by the bodies of the actors who draw places and evoke presences. Stones, earth, iron, blood , warrior postures, remnants of ancient Nuragic civilizations. Matter that does not convey meanings, but primordial forces that act on those who receive them ".
The show is performed by the Compagnia Teatropersona, founded by Alessandro Serra in 1999.
