First days of sailing in the waters off Cagliari for Luna Rossa's new Ac75 .
Three days after the launch on 13 April, Luna Rossa carried out the "tow-test" without mast and sails to check the hull structure and check all the instruments and systems on board. Having received the green light from the technicians, it began its first navigation on Friday .
A strong mistral of around 20-25 knots did not allow the team to sail for long, but the hours spent at sea were still enough to get their first impressions of the "silver bullet" .
«It was an emotional day - said Max Sirena, skipper and team director of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli - for me, for the shore team, for those who built the boat and, in general, for the entire team. Even though we didn't sail a lot, it was nice to be able to put up the sails and lift ourselves onto the foils . I would say that the first impression is very positive ."
For Francesco 'Checco' Bruni, one of Luna Rossa's helmsmen, «important checks to see the geometry of the sails, unmark a series of operations we had planned and to do a general check of the boat. Furthermore, we sailed a bit on foils, both starboard and port tack. I am very happy with this first day."
For the first time on board an America's Cup boat, cyclor Bruno Rosetti: «It was very nice to finally get on board and put into practice everything I have learned in recent years and during training. We certainly didn't push or pedal at full speed today, but it was enough to understand the beauty and complexity of this vessel."
