Luigi Lai guest of honor in Sassari for Scrivere in Jazz

Luigi Lai himself will perform at the Teatro Verdi his compositions that inspired the finalists of one of the sections of the “Writing in Jazz” competition. The 18th edition of the event organized by the Associazione Blue Note Orchestra/Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna will be held on September 12 and 13 at the Teatro Verdi in Sassari.
Three songs reached the finals in the section dedicated to the master of launeddas: Marco Battigelli with “A Bitty's Beat”, Riccardo Catria with “Su Ballu Tundu” and the German Tobias Hoffman with “The Sheperd's Mad Dance”.
On the evening of the 12th, the Jazz Orchestra of Sardinia will also perform the pieces of the finalist composers of the other two sections : “Dreams” by Martino Corso, “Bloemen” by Gabriele di Franco and “Luce” by Francesco Spinazza in the section dedicated to free original compositions; “Millacamilla” by Marco Borella, “Gli Incatenati” by Ferdinando Caiazzo and “Daina” by the Austrian Markus Neuwirth in the section dedicated to arrangements.
On September 13th at 9 pm, the OJS, with an expanded lineup, will present “Il Brutto Anatroccolo” (with the reciting voices of Francesca Corrias and Massimiliano Medda), a work created specifically for the 1997 Time in Jazz Festival in Berchidda, adapted by Enrico Pau and Aldo Tanchis, with the lyrics written by Aldo Tanchis, and the music composed by Maestro Giorgio Gaslini, a pioneer of jazz in Italy whose death marks the tenth anniversary in 2024, to whom the arrangements section of the Scrivere in Jazz competition is dedicated.
