On December 28th, LLIGAMS, a choral portrait of the families of Alghero , will open in the rooms of Lo Quarter. The word Lligam , as the people of Alghero know well, indicates a relationship of affection, love, friendship. The title is not only a tribute to the Sardinian-Catalan city that hosted Gianpaolo Arena 's artistic residency but is in all respects a declaration of intent.
«During his stay in Alghero, Arena immortalized the family nuclei of the city, deciding to shift the concept of “family” from a biological and bureaucratic bond to that of “lligam”, understood as a heterogeneous expression of affections», we read in a note.
Brothers and sisters, parents and children, puppies and friends, couples and clans: many and varied were the bonds that paraded before Gianpaolo Arena's lens, a powerful account of the evolution of emotional dynamics.
The portraits will be exhibited in the rooms on the ground floor of Lo Quarter , in an exhibition curated by Sonia Borsato which will be officially inaugurated on Saturday 28 December at 6 pm, as part of the cycle “Artist residencies”, which began with Gianpaolo Arena in December 2023 and which are part of the actions of Atelier#_nuove narrazioni contemporanee , created by the will of the Municipality of Alghero and the Alghero Foundation to enhance the city through a heterogeneous program of interventions between tradition and experimentation.
