Public funding for live music may be scarce, but punk still has a strong focus on DIY: this is the name chosen for the presentation and self-funding event of the Cagliari Hardcore Fest, scheduled for Friday evening at Su Tzirculu starting at 7 p.m. The annual gathering for fans and newcomers, organized by the eponymous collective, returns on October 18th to Campidarte (Ussana) with international guests, local artists, and Italian pillars of "core" music.

In an evening organized in collaboration with the Via Molise club and the Acme crew, with the aim of easily covering the costs of the upcoming third edition of the festival, the DIY spirit is also celebrated with the screening of the documentary film "At The Matinee." A work by musician and documentary filmmaker Giangiacomo Destefano, the feature-length film harks back to the New York punk scene of the 1980s, or more precisely, those "Sunday matinees," when the scene's youngest and most militant segments threw themselves into cathartic Sunday afternoon concerts at CBGB's, a renowned gathering place for the movement. All this is told through the memories of one of its protagonists, veteran Walter Schreifels, who describes a diverse and rebellious community, yet unable to withstand the real estate speculation and social upheavals of the era. The film will conclude with moments of socializing and music, featuring a selection curated by Acme for the occasion.

In anticipation of October 18th, the headliners who will grace the Campidarte stage have already been revealed: Parisian metal hardcore band Worst Doubt, their fellow Parisians Sorcerer (who instead focus on metalcore), and British band Still In Love, heirs to the historic UK scene and recently released their new album "Recovery Language." Other names announced, both Italian and local, include Short Fuse, Final Struggle, Ozone Dehumanizer, For Different Ways, Die Abete, Konoha, Feldspar, Miscredente, and Vile Denaro.
