Rossini's Petite Messe solennelle , an absolute masterpiece of sacred music, inaugurates the 2023 concert season of the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari .

First appointments scheduled for Saturday 14 January at 7 pm (round A) and Sunday 15 January at 5 pm (round B). The famous composition is performed by the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Lirico, led by Maurizio Benini . The conductor and composer returns to Cagliari after "his" Sonnambula by Bellini in 2008.

The solo roles are entrusted to the soprano Giuliana Gianfaldoni , the mezzo-soprano Paola Gardina , the tenor Antonino Siragusa and the bass Rafał Siwek. The choir master is Giovanni Andreoli. The last performance in Cagliari of Rossini's masterpiece ( 1863 edition ) dates back to July 12, 2018 , while the last performance of the 1867 edition dates back to January 20-21, 2012 .

Composed in 1863 , the piece is considered by Rossini himself «the last of my Peccati di vecchiaia ». In 1867 the composer arranged for the orchestration of the Petite Messe (the version presented, on this occasion, in Cagliari). The show has a total duration of about 1 hour and 30 minutes and does not include an intermission.
