"Liliana Cano. Inhabiting Space. Public Works in Sardinia" is the work of Davide Mariani, professor of Contemporary Art History and Museology at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sassari. The publication, edited by Ilisso/Poliedro, is the result of a research project funded within the PNRR e.INS – Ecosystem of Innovation for Next Generation Sardinia project. It will be presented on Thursday at 5:30 pm in the Auditorium of the Ex-Ma.Ter in Sassari.
The work combined scientific analysis, iconographic investigation, and cultural restitution, with the aim of promoting new thematic itineraries for territorial valorization and stimulating shared reflection on the value of artistic heritage as a common good to be understood, protected, and passed down.
The volume, enriched with over 130 images, supplements, biographical notes, and an updated bibliography, is divided into four thematic chapters: the great collective narratives inspired by memory and identity; the representation of the autonomous and leading female figure; the religious and spiritual dimension that permeates the artist's sacred painting; and, finally, the fragility of public art, with reflections on the preservation and loss of works.
The meeting will open with official greetings from the Director, Daniele Dore, and Igino Panzino, the artist's son and President of the Liliana Cano Archive. Speakers will include Davide Mariani, author of the volume, and Sonia Borsato, professor of Contemporary Art History and author of the afterword.
