Abruptly transferred to two different detention facilities within hours of each other, brothers Gianmarco and Filippo Tunis, aged 23 and 19, from Cagliari, are no longer in Uta Prison. They were arrested along with Daniel Campus, 22, from Quarto, on charges of complicity in robbery and the aggravated murder of 23-year-old Leonardo Mocci, killed on the night of April 22-23 in Piazza Settimio Severo, Monserrato. The former was transferred to Bancali Prison in Sassari, while the latter was transferred to Massama, a hamlet of Oristano. This has been met with protests from their lawyer, Riccardo Floris, who believes the rights of the defense have been seriously violated, so much so that he may refer the matter to the Attorney General's Office and the Ministry of Justice in the coming hours.
The transfer
No official explanation has been given. The defense attorney was notified via phone call from the two young men, informing him they were no longer in Uta. The suspicion is that the transfer may be related to the need to separate those who, according to the Prosecutor's Office, are three of the four young men involved in the robbery that later resulted in murder: Mocci was killed with a gunshot to the chest. According to the few leaks that have emerged, only Daniel Campus from Quartu remains in Uta (represented by lawyers Alberto Pani and Francesca Mannai), while the Tunis brothers have been in Sassari and Oristano for a few days. This comes just days before the review hearing requested by Floris, who is forcefully challenging the preliminary investigations judge Claudia Sechi's detention order, claiming it to be contradictory. The defense is particularly targeting certain testimonies.
The story
Leonardo Mocci and a 22-year-old man from Serramanna had been lured into a trap, convinced (according to Campus's prosecution) that they were going to buy 3 kilos of hashish for €10,000. In reality, the robbers had appeared upon their arrival in the square; the 23-year-old man from Villacidro was shot dead while trying to help his friend, who then ran away. Attorney Floris, in the re-examination, will ask the judges to reevaluate the testimonies of the friend and of one of the bystanders, who was not involved in the incident. Meanwhile, the RIS (Italian Investigative Police) have already clarified that the DNA found on some cigarette butts at the crime scene belongs to the three suspects and to other individuals, who are currently unidentified. Among these individuals may be the fourth man.
