Lella Costa closes her tour in Sardinia with the last two dates of her journey between the north and south of the island with “Otello / di precise parole si vive”.
Starting from Arzachena, the Elizabethan tragedy, reinterpreted with contemporary sensitivity by the famous Milanese actress, who signs the dramaturgy together with Gabriele Vacis, for an original and compelling version of William Shakespeare's masterpiece with sets by Roberto Tarasco, scenography by Lucio Diana and direction by Vacis himself, will be performed again this evening, Sunday 19 January, at 8:30 pm at the Teatro Comunale "Akinu Congia" in Sanluri and finally tomorrow at the same time at the Teatro Centrale in Carbonia as part of the Prose Season of CeDAC / Multidisciplinary Circuit of Live Performance, chaired by Antonio Cabiddu and directed by Valeria Ciabattoni.
A fascinating and surprisingly topical play that addresses the complex and burning issue of femicide by relying on the poetic and imaginative words of the English Bard: "Every man kills what he loves", writes Oscar Wilde in the heartbreaking "Ballad of Reading Gaol" and in fact the Moor of Venice in the final monologue states that he committed his atrocious as well as useless crime, sacrificing an innocent woman, in the name of love.
A terrible statement that harks back to the legacy of patriarchal civilization, in which adultery could and even had to be punished with death to erase the offense inflicted on the family and redeem the honor of the one who had been betrayed, almost as if to reaffirm the sacredness and unbreakability of marriage but also the subordination of women confined to the dual role of wives and mothers, guardians of the home and children and subjected to the authority of their respective fathers and husbands.
A choral tale for a single voice in which the actress plays all the characters and which at a certain point takes on the character of a melodrama or rather a “Shakespearean rap” to the tune of “Soldi” by Mahmood : on stage, expertly evoked, appear Othello, a valiant general in the service of the Most Serene Republic of Venice, and the treacherous Iago, the noble Cassio, lieutenant of the Moor, and the foolish Roderigo, the Doge and Brabantio, father of Desdemona, a crowd of citizens who comment on the facts and the two only female figures, namely Emilia, unfortunate wife of Iago, and the beautiful Desdemona, a courageous young woman who has defied convention to follow her beloved.
