Lazio's first home game of the season began with protests from Lazio fans. First, a march to Ponte Milvio brought 5,000 ultras to protest against president Claudio Lotito and the management.

Then a banner was unfurled in the North, urging the team to "not retreat a single meter" and to follow Sarri, who remained despite the transfer ban. At kick-off, however, the flags and banners were removed, along with a 10-minute silence that concluded with Zaccagni's goal to make it 2-0 against Verona. After the Lazio captain's goal, the protest chants against Lotito continued.
