Laura Pausini, a Sanremo co-host and great lover of Sardinia.
She has confessed it several times: " I feel a bit Sardinian, also because here there are two towns called Pau and Sini, " she joked in 2023, a guest on Unione Cult in the Radiolina studios.
Naturally, having a husband from Bultei, Paolo Carta, one of the most renowned guitarists on the Italian scene, as well as a music producer and songwriter, weighs heavily. She's collaborated with dozens of artists, including Adriano Celentano, Eros Ramazzotti, Alexia, Fabio Concato, Riccardo Cocciante, Max Pezzali, and Gianni Morandi. And not only that: Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie, and Gloria Gaynor.
Over twenty years ago, he began working with Laura Pausini on the 2005 World Tour, an artistic partnership that quickly blossomed into love. In 2013, their daughter Paola was born, Carta's fourth child. From his previous marriage to Rebecca Galli, he had Jader, Joseph (aka Holden, a contestant and finalist on Amici 23), and Jacopo.
In 2009, Paolo Carta was the artistic producer of Marco Carta's album "La forza mia" (no relation), and co-wrote the song of the same name that won the Sanremo Music Festival. The following year, he also collaborated on Carta's second album, "Il cuore muove."
Meanwhile, Pausini was thrilled to return as co-host to the stage that launched her career: it was 1993 and she, the "girl from Solarolo," won the Newcomers category with La Solitudine, consolidating her success the following year with Strani Amori, placing third.
The world's most awarded Italian artist was a special guest at the Ariston in 2001, 2006, 2016, 2018, 2021, and 2022.
Long courted, she never agreed to host: "I convinced her by going to her house and singing La Solitudine for thirty days straight, singing it out of tune," artistic director Carlo Conti joked when making the announcement last night on Tg1. "It's a great honor and a joy to share the hosting duties with such a strong, charismatic, and entertaining artist and woman as Laura. We'll also have various co-hosts every night, with whom we'll liven up the Ariston stage ," he promised.
"Sanremo is my destiny. My smile. My temptation. My fear," said Pausini. "I was born artistically in Sanremo in 1993, and this year I return proud and moved because with all the honor and joy in the world. First times are never forgotten, and like the first kiss, I feel emotional. I've spent all my life watching Sanremo and never thought I'd find myself in this role now. I thank Carlo; the respect I've always felt for him has also turned into trust; he managed to overcome my fear of imagining myself as a host. I can't wait to have fun and be moved with him by my side. I will truly do everything I can to live up to this stage, which remains the most important to me ."
Meanwhile, while waiting for the festival, Pausini will release Io Canto 2, her new covers album (Warner Records / Warner Music Italy) on February 6th, a tribute to the singer-songwriters, performers, and composers of Italian music history. On March 27th, she will kick off another major live marathon in Pamplona, stopping in Tenerife, Barcelona, Valencia, and Madrid, before continuing through Latin America and landing in the United States, from Miami to New York. In the fall, she will tour Italy and Europe, performing in the arenas of the world's largest cities, before arriving in Brazil in February 2027. She will then return to her homeland with a mega-stadium show and a winter reprise, again in Italy and Europe, until the end of the year.
A global pop icon, with over 75 million records sold worldwide and over 6 billion streams, the first and only Italian to win a Grammy Award and enter the Billboard Hot 100, Pausini has won four Latin Grammy Awards and was honored by the Latin Recording Academy as "Person of the Year 2023" (the first non-native Spanish speaker ever to receive this recognition). Her list of honors also boasts a Golden Globe, an Oscar nomination, and an Emmy Award nomination. She co-hosted the 2022 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin with Mika and Alessandro Cattelan.
